Scarlett Johansson, Disney Settle Out Of Court

Don’t mess with this Marvel heroine.

For a while there, it almost looked like Disney and Marvel star Scarlett Johansson would never settle their differences – and things would get nasty. But apparently, the two have come together in a surprising truce, and vow to work together once more down the road.

Today, the Mouse House announced that it has settled the massive Black Widow lawsuit brought on by Johansson for an undisclosed amount. Originally, she was seeking $50 million in unpaid fees when the movie debuted on Disney+ premium alongside its theatrical run.

“I am happy to have resolved our differences with Disney,” said Johansson in a statement released today. ” I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done together over the years and have greatly enjoyed my creative relationship with the team. I look forward to continuing our collaboration in years to come.”

Disney noted that it can’t wait to work with Johansson again. We appreciate her contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and look forward to working together on a number of upcoming projects, including Disney’s Tower of Terror,” said Alan Bergman, charirman for Disney Studios Content.

Things got pretty wild for a bit there. Following her initial filing of a lawsuit, Disney attacked the actress and said she had no basis for it. And they went back and forth for several weeks, even with some stars coming to Johansson’s support. But, eventually, they came together and found a resolution, especially as Black Widow nears its mainstream debut on Disney+ sometime this fall.

As for whether Johansson will return to the signature role, that’s unknown. But never say never, as we’ve seen Marvel characters come back from worse situations.

Black Widow is available on-demand and on physical media now.
